How do you recreate the end of the world?

For Life on Our Planet, Silverback Films commissioned us to capture landscapes that could stand in for Earth in the aftermath of the asteroid impact that ended the age of the dinosaurs. That meant searching for places that felt untouched by modern civilization and documenting active wildfires that mirrored a world in ecological collapse.

Working with a lightweight, expedition-style camera package, we spent weeks living out of our trucks and hiking deep into remote wilderness, deserts, and active fire zones across the American West. Long off-trail approaches, extreme heat, smoke, and rapidly changing conditions demanded a stripped-down production built for mobility rather than comfort. In Death Valley, temperatures reached 135°F, pushing both crew and camera systems beyond their intended limits. On wildfires, filming within range of towering flames meant constantly adapting to heat, smoke, and even aerial retardant drops.

The result became part of Netflix's Life on Our Planet, helping visualize a world transformed by one of the most significant extinction events in Earth's history.
