What happens when you experience a landscape the way wild horses have for generations?

Women in the Wilderness follows three women on a 26-day expedition through Wyoming's remote wild horse country, traveling entirely by mustang across some of the most rugged public lands in the American West. More than an adventure, the film explores our relationship with wild landscapes, the horses that inhabit them, and the people working to understand their future.

Filmed with a small expedition crew, our approach was built around immersion. Living and traveling alongside the team, we documented the journey as it unfolded, adapting to changing weather, difficult terrain, and the unpredictable rhythm of life in the backcountry. Long days on horseback, remote camps, and vast stretches without roads or infrastructure demanded a production that was lightweight, self-sufficient, and responsive to the environment.

Rather than arriving with predetermined answers, the film invites audiences to experience the landscape firsthand through the perspective of those crossing it. By combining intimate observational storytelling with cinematic imagery of Wyoming's mountains, deserts, and wild horse ranges, Women in the Wilderness explores the enduring connection between people, place, and the untamed landscapes of the American West.
